Wayne Sacks

Wayne Sacks has law qualifications gained from Melbourne University and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Wayne is a founding member of the Batten Sacks partnership. He gained his experience as a partner in a successful legal practice in Johannesburg and with a medium tier Australian firm prior to establishing, together with Searle Batten, Batten Sacks, which has been in existence for 14 years.

Clients appreciate Wayne’s reassuring and quietly-spoken manner as well as his absolute determination to achieve the best result possible for each client.

He is a family man, has been married for 36 years and is a sports enthusiast. He has two adult sons who are making their own mark in their careers.

Searle Batten

Searle Batten has law qualifications gained from Melbourne University and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Searle completed his admission requirements at Molomby & Molomby and then joined Clayton Utz in its commercial litigation department prior to forming Batten Sacks.

As a founding member of Batten Sacks, Searle represents companies and family businesses in a wide range of business, commercial litigation and franchising law activities. Over the past 18 years, Searle has acted for franchisors and franchisees in relation to establishing new franchises, acting for franchisors in disputes with franchisees and buying and selling franchises and businesses. Searle has developed particular skills in the hospitality industry, the purchase and sale of Alpine properties and the purchase and sale of Child Care Centres.

Searle, with his engaging personality and administration skills is the managing partner of Batten Sacks. This task, coupled with his cycling and sporting activities and the delight of looking after two growing boys together with his wife keeps him fully occupied.

Trevor Rosenthal

Trevor Rosenthal has law qualifications obtained from the University of New South Wales and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Trevor has practised law in Melbourne for approximately 14 years and prior to joining Batten Sacks was the litigation partner in a St Kilda Road based practice. Trevor was the senior partner of a firm in Johannesburg where he gained approximately 20 years experience.

Trevor’s legal experience coupled with his commercial approach and understanding of his clients’ business requirements, facilitates positive outcomes for his clients who are involved in litigation matters.

Trevor practises in the area of commercial litigation including contractual, partnership, joint-venture, shareholder and sale of business disputes, construction litigation both commercial and domestic, insurance claims, restraints of trade and injunctions.

Additionally Trevor attends to insolvency matters (both corporate and personal) including acting for and against liquidators with regard to undue preference claims, director penalty notices, creditors’ statutory demands, winding up applications, bankruptcy notices, creditors’ bankruptcy petitions, insolvent trading actions and advising directors on their duties, claims alleging uncommercial transactions and acting for clients with regard to proceedings commenced by the Australian Taxation Office.

Trevor also practises in the area of family law and in particular property settlement disputes including the valuation of assets, re-distribution of matrimonial asset pools and advising on and preparing Binding Financial Agreements and Binding Child Support Agreements.

Trevor has been married for 37 years and is a keen runner and golfer as well as being a qualified cricket umpire and coach. He has two adult children who have university qualifications and are gainfully employed in the workforce.

Colin Adno

Colin Adno has law qualifications gained from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is also qualified as a lawyer in New Zealand and Australia, and is a registered Migration Agent (MARN 9801110).

Colin has worked across all fields of the law in Johannesburg, Auckland and Melbourne. In 1999 he started his own law firm, Colin Adno and Associates, and in 2016 merged with Batten Sacks.

No document ever leaves Colin’s office without the “i’s” dotted and the “t’s” crossed.

Colin has been married for a very, very long time to a wonderful woman. He has a step daughter, 2 grandchildren and two sons, a neurotic Staffie and a senile cat. Colin is extremely loyal – he still supports the Melbourne Demons after 20 years of dismal performances.

Harvey Bruce

Harvey graduated with law degrees from Monash University, Melbourne. He is a Fellow of the Society of Notaries of Victoria and has been in practice for 43 years. Until joining Batten Sacks, he managed his own practice, Harvey Bruce & Co for 28 years.

Harvey is well-known for his community work, dispute resolution skills and friendly and easy-going nature. He has been married for 45 years and has three adult children and 4 grandchildren.

Geof Baum

Geof has law qualifications gained from Monash University, Melbourne. He was formerly an associate with Harvey Bruce & Co and has been in practice for over 20 years. People appreciate his ability to listen and his knowledge of the law. Over the years, Geof has lectured at tertiary level on various law and related subjects.

Raymond Jonathan Abrahams

Following a successful 20 year law career in Johannesburg culminating as a senior partner and head of litigation, Raymond immigrated with his family to Melbourne and became a partner of Kalus Kenny Lawyers South Yarra Melbourne practising primarily in the area of litigation.

Raymond obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree followed by an LL B degree and studied at Deakin University to fulfil his requirements to practise law in Australia.

Raymond practises in the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Courts including the Federal and Federal Magistrates’ Courts of Victoria and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal across a wide range of commercial litigation areas including leases, property disputes, partnership and contractual disputes and bankruptcy. Raymond has also represented numerous clients in Domestic Building disputes.

Raymond has completed the National Accredited Mediator Training Course and is registered as a mediator.

Raymond is actively involved in local community work. He is married with three sons and is an avid outdoor enthusiast and weekend golfer with a keen love of the arts and classical music.

Daniel Meyrowitz

Daniel commenced at Batten Sacks in March 2013 and is admitted to practise in Victoria and New Zealand. He practises predominantly in the areas of Commercial Law, Estate Planning and Commercial Litigation. He deals with matters relating to building disputes, debt recovery, property law and bankruptcy law. Daniel graduated from the University of Auckland with degrees in Law and English literature.

Daniel has been married for a period 7 years and has one daughter, Gabriella.  His interests include poetry, bushwalking and British comedy.

Alek Cesmadziski

Alek Cesmadziski, LLB (Hons) obtained his law degree from Victoria University and was admitted to practise as a lawyer on 17 April, 2012.

Prior to joining Batten Sacks in April 2016, Alek gained broad experience at a boutique law firm, with a focus on litigation and estate planning.

Alek has experience and a particular interest in assisting clients to claim their rightful entitlement whether to land or money, where such disputes relate generally to the sale or development of land, contractual relations and personal or business debts.

Having worked with and learned from highly skilled senior lawyers, Alek’s approcah to practice at Batten Sacks is to:

  • Always be attentive to his client’s needs;
  • Fully understand client’s circumstances and objectives;
  • See “the Big Picture”;
  • Deliver timely, accurate and cost effective outcomes.

Alek is able to converse with his clients in not only English but Macedonian, Serbian and Croatian.

Outside of work, Alek loves to explore the outdoors and spend time with his pets, friends and family; mostly in that particular order. Alek is happily anticipating his January marriage to his fiancé, Farah.
